Nutrition Labels Coming to Alcohol

Nutritional info may soon be found on alcohol.

The United State Treasury Department says beer, wine and spirit makers now have the option of listing nutritional info like serving sizes, calories and carbohydrates on their beverages.

The decision is a temporary measure until the Alcohol and Tobacco Trade and Tax Bureau decides whether to make nutrition labels mandatory on all bottles and cans.

Many spirit makers say they’ll put the info on their bottles as a way to promote some of their products as low cal./carb. drinks.

Many beer distributors say they will not put the info on their cans.
