Numerous COVID statistics increase in Tuesday’s daily report

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – As questions continue to be raised about wearing masks and the severity of the Delta variant, Kentucky’s COVID statistics show a persistent increase in various areas.

The number of counties in the ‘red’ category for high incidence rates continues to increase as it goes from 23 to 28.

In Tuesday’s daily report, the state listed 1,273 new cases. The numbers brought the total number of cases in the state to 477,882.

The positivity rate crossed another percentage point to 8.11%, an increase from 7.89% on Monday.

Of the new cases, 251 are in people 18 and younger.

The state reported four new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing Kentucky’s total death toll since the pandemic to 7,323.

The state reported 520 people hospitalized, up from 486 on Monday; 175 in ICU, an increase from Monday’s 159; and 83 people on a ventilator, a jump from 71 on Monday.
