Number of homeless down from a year ago in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The number of homeless people in Lexington is down from a year ago, according to numbers released Friday by the city.

The number of people experiencing homelessness dropped by 12.5% from last year, according to the city.

Wednesday night, 153 volunteers covered 75 areas across the county to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in the city. It’s an annual event called LexCount.

The teams found 689 people experiencing homelessness, including 603 people living in emergency shelters, 55 in transitional housing and 31 unsheltered.

The volunteers directed those who were unsheltered to emergency housing.
