The number of farms in Kentucky is shrinking and it’s happening fast.

That’s according to a new study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Lexington Herald-Leader found that between 2007 and 2012, nearly a million acres of farmland disappeared.

Those acres came from over 8,000 farms that stopped operations.

According to researchers that puts Kentucky with the highest drop in farmland in the country.
