Not guilty plea from parents accused of starving son

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – The parents charged with the death of their special needs son in Winchester pleaded not guilty to murder on Wednesday.

Albert Christy and Patsy Christy were arrested Monday in connection to the death of 20-year-old Logan Christy, who had Down Syndrome.

Authorities were called to the Christy’s home on December 12, 2017 about an unresponsive male.

Logan Christy later died at Clark Regional Medical Center.

According to an autopsy, Christy died from malnutrition, dehydration and pneumonia and weighed just 61 pounds at the time of his death.

The Winchester Sun reports Logan Christy was only given fluids from a sippy cup and nothing was found in his stomach at the time of his death.

Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue says Christy’s parents received benefits from the state to care for him until he turned 18 but after that, he says they no longer tried to get assistance.

Perdue tells the Winchester Sun that they had been investigating Christy’s death for two months but did not file charges until the final medical examiner’s report was received.

A preliminary hearing for Albert and Patsy Christy is scheduled for March 7.
