No. 18 Kentucky Baseball dominates in season opener

GREENSBORO, Nc. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – No. 18 Kentucky Baseball opened its 2026 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating UNC Greensboro 13-2.

The Wildcats broke the game open in the third, erupting for eight runs in a decisive frame that put the Spartans on their heels. Luke Lawrence delivered the biggest swing of the day, launching a grand slam during the explosive third inning.

Jaxson Jelkin got the start on the mound for Kentucky and was electric. The right-hander tossed four innings, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits in a commanding performance.

Tristan Hunter closed out the game for the Wildcats, pitching 1 1/3 innings while allowing one hit on a solo home run. He also recorded two strikeouts.

Kentucky returns to action tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Spartans, with first pitch of Game 1 set for 1 p.m.
