Night bowfishing banned on five smaller lakes in state, four in region

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Bowfishing is increasing popular at many Kentucky lakes, from Lake Barkley to Cave Run to Lake Cumberland as sportsmen tackle the challenge to hauling in lunkers in a different way.

But as the sport grows in popularity, it’s also moving to some smaller lakes. And that’s a problem in some cases because many bowfishermen practice their sport at night. On smaller lakes, that can mean noisy generators fueling lights on boats or at camp sites, spotlights interrupting peaceful nights in backyards and other annoyances.

Friday, after receiving numerous complaints from property owners and other sportsmen, the Kentucky Fisheries and Wildlife Commission banned the practice at night on five smaller lakes, four of them in the region.

Those are Lake Reba in Madison County, Carnico Lake in Nicholas County, Clear Creek Lake in Bath County, and Greenbo Lake and Greenup County.
