Nic McCay named SEC Pitcher of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – On Saturday in Knoxville, McKay turned in the best performance of his collegiate career, leading the Wildcats to a 4–1 win over No. 2 Tennessee. His dominant outing earned him SEC Pitcher of the Week honors.

McKay was masterful on the mound, tossing 7 2/3 innings while allowing just two hits and one unearned run. He struck out 12 Volunteers and walked only three. From the third inning through the eighth, he retired 17 of 18 batters — including a stretch of 12 straight.

It marked McKay’s third quality start of the season and came at a pivotal time for Kentucky. The Wildcats carried that momentum into Sunday, clinching the series win over Tennessee — their first series victory in Knoxville since 2016.

With the series win, Kentucky improved to 8–10 in the SEC and 22–15 overall.
