FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s back to work for the committee searching for Fayette County Public School’s new superintendent.

The Fayette County Board of Education says McNamara Search, the new search firm hired to find candidates, has made "significant progress" in finding applicants.

It says after a week and a half of intensive screening and interviewing by the school board’s executive search firm, the elected members of the Superintendent Screening Committee will meet to review the selections.

The committee will meet Tuesday, June 2 at 9:00 a.m. and Wednesday, June 3 at 1 p.m.

The meetings are closed to the public.

After receiving and considering all applicants, the committee’s task is to make a recommendation to the Fayette County Board of Education about which candidates they believe are the best fit for the school district.

The school board will also receive all of the application files.

State law does not require that the board of education hire from among the recommendations of the screening committee.

The board wants to have a new superintendent in place by July 1st.
