Newly crowned Miss Kentucky stops by ABC36

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington native Alex Francke was crowned Miss Kentucky on Saturday.

“It’s kind of surreal,” said Francke.

Francke stopped by ABC36′s Good Day Kentucky on Friday to talk about the crowning moment.

“I could not tell you a word that was said,” laughed Francke, who described that night as a blur.

Francke says it took a year of preparation to get ready for the competition. She spent that year with the title of Miss Central Kentucky, focusing on her platform of ‘Adopt an Art’.

“I work with schools to keep arts education in place, even when they’ve been cut due to budgetary concerns,” explained Francke.

It’s an issue close to her heart, as Francke attended SCAPA in Lexington, a School for the Creative and Performing Arts.

Francke got involved with the Miss America organization her sophomore year of high school. “I was so burned out from theatre,” said Francke. Before that, she was Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen in high school.

Saturday’s judging in Louisville consisted of a private interview, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit segment, evening wear, and on-stage question. For her talent, Francke performed a musical theatre piece from the musical ‘Cabaret’.

The Miss Kentucky scholarship organization awarded Francke $18,000.

Looking ahead to Miss America, Francke said she looks forward to preparing, “I’m going to be competing with the best of the best.”

The date for Miss America 2020 has not yet been set.
