New UK women’s basketball head coach lands four commits
LEXINGTON, KY (WTVQ)- New University of Kentucky women’s basketball Head Coach Kenny Brooks is bringing his first new players to the Bluegrass.
Amelia Hassett, Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack all committed to the Wildcats on April 4.
A day later another commitment came through. Lexi Blue, a guard from Orlando, Florida, who will come to Kentucky as a freshman this coming season.
Amoore and Strack played for Coach Brooks at Virginia Tech and will reunite with him in the Bluegrass.
Coach Brooks is also familiar with Hassett, a forward from Australia, who had originally committed to play for the Hokies when Brooks was at the helm. The junior college product is coming off of her sophomore year at Eastern Florida State College where she started 32 games averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds per game.
Amoore, a fellow Australian, averaged 18 points and six assists per game with the Hokies on their way to an NCAA Second Round finish this past season. Amoore is an All-American point guard and comes to Lexington with four season of college basketball experience.
Last season for the Hokies, Strack came off of the bench for Coach Brooks and shot 66 percent from behind the arc while grabbing four rebounds on average per game.
Blue is another player who switched her commitment from Virginia Tech to Kentucky. At Lake Highland Prep High School, Blue averaged 13 points per game this past season.
