New UK baseball assistant coach Chase Slone getting to work

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky Baseball’s new hitting and assistant coach Chase Slone is getting settled in Lexington after being hired on Sunday.

The former Wright State Associate Head Coach is replacing former assistant coach Nick Ammirati, who left for Georgia earlier this offseason.

Slone and Head Coach Nick Mingione’s relationship goes back to 2012, when they met at one of Mingione’s team camps at Mississippi State; back when Slone was a camper.

“He was one of my favorite campers,” Mingione said. “Believe it or not I have always followed his career since then.”

During his time at Wright State, Slone has seen six players drafted in the MLB Draft.

“He’s innovative and he’s extremely bright about the swing,” Mingione said. “When you look at what he’s been able to do at Wright State and his teams, it’s very similar to the offenses we run.”

Slone says that he wants Kentucky to be “a complete offense,” and that he feels extremely welcomed by the staff and players.

“Everything you see on the field translates behind the scenes,” Sloane said. “It’s very genuine.”
