New superintendent named for Franklin County Schools

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Franklin County Board of Education has named a new superintendent.

The board unanimously voted to appoint Mark Kopp as the new superintendent of Franklin County Schools to replace former Superintendent Chrissy Jones.

Jones announced her retirement at the end of the fiscal year in January of this year.

Mr. Kopp has been in education for the past 24 years and currently serves as Chief Academic Officer and Associate Superintendent for Instructional Service for the Hardin County Public Schools.

He will take over as Franklin County’s superintendent on July 1st, 2017.

The board received 22 applicants for the position.

Under Superintendent Jones, the district has made substantial progress, which the board feels is necessary to build upon.

The board decided that Mark Kopp was the candidate that would best fit the position.
