FCSO: New summer care program delivers free water
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff began its new summer care program Friday. Free bottles of water were distributed to residents living on Lexington’s East End.
The Sheriff’s Office says the program’s goal is to keep the community hydrated and make clean, cool drinking water readily available to those who may not have access to it.
“Not a lot of people have cool water. It’s one of the little things we can do to make their situation better,” said Chief Deputy Roger Robinson.
Being out and about throughout the community also helps in creating strong ties, according to the Sheriff.
“We can knock on a door and we can offer something, rather than knock on a door and make an arrest. It really strengthens our relationship with those we serve,” said Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt.
ABC 36 was told the Sheriff’s Office plans to continue the program throughout the summer. Those dates will be posted online as soon as they become available.
