New Skate park at Berry Hill Park
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — With a flow bowl, snake run, stairs and rails, the new skate park is ready for all manner of skateboarders, BMX riders, and inline skaters near Berry Hill Park, Lexington.
Built and designed by Dreamland Skateparks LLC, the park was announced on Friday by the City’s Division of Parks & Recreation and the non-profit group Friends for Skateparks.
One of Dreamland’s craftsmen, Burke Morris, said he was a Lexington native. They made sure to include Bluegrass-themed elements into the design, including horseshoes stamping into concrete, and metal rails featuring galloping Thoroughbreds.
Additional work on the skate park will continue, according to officials, throughout the summer. A sidewalk, benches, signage, drinking fountain and landscaping has yet to be completed, but the bowls and rails are reportedly open for skating.
“I think the park will be very popular with local skaters and bikers, and give out-of-town skaters a reason to come visit our city,” said Gavin Duerson, president of Friends for Skateparks. “I am especially excited with how the snake run turned out. It is a truly unique feature that no other park in the region comes close to offering.”
