New school, new stadium, but the same goals for Scott County football

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Scott County’s football team will suit up for Friday night lights in a new stadium, but with the same goals.
For the first time in 30 years, the team will play a true home game at the new Scott County High School. Senior defensive back and running back Buddy Collins is ready for his last season to be the start of something new.
“I feel like our offense will be one of the best in the state for sure. We have a young running back and two senior running backs who will lead the back field and our fullbacks are both seniors,” said Collins, who is committed to play college football at the United States Naval Academy.
The team finished third in the 5A class last season with a 9-3 overall record. But, Cooper bested the Cardinals early in the playoffs. That’s a scenario that Head Coach Jim McKee says needs to be avoided this season.
“You can make a bunch of excuses or you can own it. We didn’t play well, but Cooper was better than us. We got beat on a Friday and if we played them on a Saturday we still would’ve lost,” said McKee.
The team’s schedule features familiar faces from last season. The notable opponents include Boyle County, Lexington Catholic and crosstown rivals Great Crossing.
McKee thinks that his group has overcome some roster turnover, but will still be a consistent running offense.
“Our best six offensive lineman are back, our tight end is back, our quarterback is back. Our whole entire back field graduated,” said McKee. “Hopefully you’ve got the old school cook and the person with the new ideas and when you put the recipe together hopefully the dish that you have for supper is good and tastes great.”
