New Lexington Fire station opens Monday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Lexington Fire Station 24 has officially opened its doors for emergency response.

Following tradition, Lexington Fire posted to Facebook the crews of Engine 24 and Tanker 1 pushing their trucks into the new station Monday located at 2754 Magnolia Springs Drive.

The fire department says it’s excited to be a part of Masterson Station, and expanding their fleet into one of Lexington’s largest neighborhoods.

Before, the closest stations to the area were at Georgetown and Leestown Roads.

Lexington Fire Department posted to Facebook a video of Engine 24 leaving the station on its first run, shortly after opening.

The new fire station also has a new, special truck. Battalion Chief Jordan Saas tells us it’s the first of its kind for the department.

He says Tanker 1 can hold 3,000 gallons of water, which is what three of their engine trucks can hold.

“So rather than having to request three engine companies, now we can request one. Tanker 1 is gonna fill a gap in our response coverage where we can use it in more rural areas that might not have hydrants or good water protection,” says Saas.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the new station on August 20th, at 10 in the morning.
