New head coach chosen to lead Lexington Sporting Club

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Lexington Sporting Club has found its man.

Terry Boss is the new head coach for LSC’s United Soccer League Championship team becoming the third ever in franchise history.

The new manager comes to the Bluegrass after two years as an assistant coach under Head Coach Josh Wolff at Austin FC in Major League Soccer.

Boss says that he is inspired by LSC’s commitment to excelling in its new league this coming season.

“Our shared ambition to win and to win our way makes me believe we can build something special together that the city of Lexington will be proud of,” said Boss. “People are the most important part of any project and it was clear from our first conversation that this was a group of people I wanted to work with.”

“Terry’s commitment to excellence, dedication to the development of players and exciting style of play aligns perfectly with our club’s vision.” said CEO Kim Shelton.

Before his time coaching in the American top flight, Boss was a two-time PAC-12 Coach of the Year at Oregon State. He led the Beavers to four NCAA Tournaments in five years, once as the number one overall seed.

His other stops include time as an Associate Head Coach at the University of Virginia, where we won a national title in 2014, and two assistant coaching roles at OSU as well has his alma mater, the University of Tulsa.

Boss is a goalkeeper by trade and spent some time on the United States men’s national team staff as a goalkeeping and assistant coach in 2019.

After college, Boss spent seven seasons between the sticks for the New York Red Bulls, Seattle Sounders and Puerto Rican national team.

In Seattle, Boss was in the same dressing room as U.S. goalkeeping legend Kasey Keller and won three U.S. Open Cup titles in a row.

He has experience in the USL as a player with the Charlotte Eagles and Puerto Rico Islanders back in the mid-2000s.

Boss will get to work formulating a roster with a handful of key returners already signed on for the club’s inaugural USLC season.

Cameron Lancaster, Ates Diof, Yannick Yankam, Kimball Jackson and Azaad Liadi are the holdovers from last season that have already been announced.
