New footage on London Police involved shooting
LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Newly released footage is shedding light on the events leading up to an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead in Laurel County last week. The incident occurred late on December 23 during what police say was the execution of a search warrant.
According to audio from Laurel County Dispatch, the shooting happened around 11 p.m. on Vanzant Road as London Police were searching a home. Authorities reported shots fired shortly after arriving at the scene. London Police stated that the man inside the home allegedly aimed a gun at officers, prompting them to fire. The man later died as a result.
However, new details have raised concerns about whether officers were at the correct address. Scanner audio indicates authorities initially reported being at 489 Vanzant Road, but Kentucky State Police later confirmed the shooting took place at a neighboring house, 511 Vanzant Road.
The incident remains under investigation, and further updates are expected as new details emerge.
