New details in bludgeoning death of Lexington woman
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Newly released court documents say a Lexington woman found bludgeoned to death was killed with a railroad tie.
The body of 37-year-old Meghan Acord was found under a bridge on East Loudon Avenue and Eastland Drive on October 1st.
Arresting documents on the man accused of killing her, 35-year-old Valenti Ware, say witnesses saw him beating Acord in the head with a short piece of railroad tie.
Witnesses also told police that Acord would sleep under the bridge if she could not reserve a bed at the Catholic Action Center.
Documents say on September 29th, the night she was killed, Acord was seen on surveillance video from the Catholic Action Center leaving the shelter with Ware and another man.
A person who witnessed the murder also told police he and Ware boarded a Lextran bus at the Catholic Action Center after the murder and got off somewhere on New Circle near Palumbo Drive.
He says they walked to some railroad tracks nearby and Ware removed the clothes he was wearing during the murder and burned them near the tracks.
Documents say investigators went to the location and found pieces of burned fabric, including a piece of gray cloth material. Police say Ware can be seen on the Catholic Action Center surveillance video wearing a gray University of Kentucky sweatshirt as he left the center with Acord the night of her death.
Ware was arrested in Des Moines, Iowa and brought back to Kentucky on Thursday.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.
