New CEO named for ARH Morgan County Hospital
WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (ARH Public Affairs) – Appalachian Regional Healthcare has named Pike County native Katherine Carter the new CEO at its 25-bed critical access Morgan County ARH in West Liberty.
She starts her new role at M Oct. 5.
Carter brings four years of executive healthcare experience to the position, having served in multiple leadership roles as assistant administrator at Whitesburg ARH Hospital.
Most recently, Carter served ARH as the Big Sandy Region Clinic Administrator, where she managed operations of 17 clinics, comprised of 11 specialties and more than 70 providers.
Carter completed a master’s degree in health administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky.
“We are pleased to have Katherine lead the ARH team at Morgan County,” said Joe Grossman, ARH President and CEO. “Her familiarity with ARH, extensive experience and commitment to providing quality care to the people of Central Appalachia will serve her well as she moves Morgan County ARH forward.”
Carter is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

ARH is a not-for-profit health system operating 13 hospitals in Barbourville, Hazard, Harlan, Hyden, Martin, McDowell, Middlesboro, Prestonsburg, West Liberty, Whitesburg and South Williamson in Kentucky and Beckley and Hinton in West Virginia, as well as multi-specialty physician practices, home health agencies, home medical equipment stores and retail pharmacies.
ARH employs more than 6,000 people with an annual payroll and benefits of $330 million. ARH also has a network of more than 600 active and courtesy medical staff members.
ARH is the largest provider of care and single largest employer in southeastern Kentucky and the third largest private employer in southern West Virginia.
