New cases of Whooping cough
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The city of Lexington is reporting three new confirmed cases of whooping cough, according to the latest update from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department released on Tuesday.
Health officials say the total number of confirmed cases of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, has now reached 60 since the outbreak began on April 26th. The latest report includes three cases confirmed within the last week.
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads through coughing and sneezing. The health department encourages residents to learn more about the signs and symptoms of pertussis to help prevent further spread of the illness.
