New Animal Shelter in Boyle County
DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – After four years of planning and fundraising, the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society is about to debut its new shelter.
Board members for the shelter say the current building was built 40 years ago and is now crumbling.
They consider the new Katherine E. Nelsen Adoption Center a state-of-the-art facility and they hope it will increase adoptions.
“We want them to have a family, that’s all they want is to just have a family and have some love and if this building will cause that to happen more frequently then we’ve reached our goal,” said Bettie Poland, who is a past president of the board of directors.
The new center features more kennels and is about twice the size of the old shelter. It cost about $600,000 but the shelter says most of the money was raised through donations.
There will be a ribbon cutting Saturday, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at 778 North Danville Bypass for the community.
Board members plan to move all the animals over next month once they are sure there are no problems with the new building.
