New and improved paddock unveiled at Churchill Downs

New features unveiled just in time for the 150th Kentucky Derby on May 4

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC NEWS NOW) – Just over a week until the 150th Kentucky Derby, $200 million of renovations has been unveiled at Churchill Downs and the focus is on the renovated paddock area.

“To me it’s the crowning, most transformational project in Churchill Downs’ history at least in the last 20 years,” said Darren Rogers, a spokesperson for the race track. “As a part of this paddock project with two premium clubs that’s delivering a really unique, equine focused experience and then you can see the artwork around the facility which is all equine related.”Paddock1

What was once 5,000 square feet is now 12,000 square feet that includes two club sections which have a view from either side of the paddock and the race track’s twin spires.

“It’s designed for our biggest week of the year. We have 70 racing dates every year. I think everyone is going to love being in this paddock,” said Rogers. “The paddock is the heartbeat of every racetrack. Fans love to congregate there.”
