New 911 Emergency Service Fee in effect for Berea
BEREA, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Beginning this year, the City of Berea is adding a new 911 emergency service fee to local water bills.
According to the city, the fee will begin appearing on bills due on the 10th.
In a post on Facebook, city officials said Berea adopted an ordinance to support the Madison County Emergency Communications Center, which included the new service fee.
Under the ordinance, residential and non-commercial accounts will be charged $3.50 per unit. Commercial accounts will be charged $41.67 per meter, while industrial and large commercial accounts will be charged $125 per meter.
City officials say all funds collected through the fee will be used exclusively to maintain and improve 911 services to ensure rapid and dependable emergency response for Berea residents.
Residents who believe their 911 service fee was not assessed accurately are encouraged to contact the City of Berea for assistance.
