Neighbors react to newborn found in a trash bag

Clay County, KY (WTVQ) – A newborn baby was found dead inside of a trash bag this morning in Clay County.

State Police say the baby was found outside an apartment complex around 7:30am on Ham Hollow Road and say there is no suspect yet.

The cause and time of death are unknown until the autopsy is complete.

Neighbors are in shock and are grieving the death of this baby.

“It’s heartbreaking to hear something like this and to see something like this,” said Sharon Wagers, Neighbor.

“It isn’t right I guess. I mean, there isn’t no good feeling about it,” said Tyler Herd, Neighbor.

Tyler Herd says that it was his father who found the baby once he walked up the stairs and was on the first platform. He said his father noticed a trash bag in the grass and walked over to it for a closer look.

“He went back down and raced up to see and he seen the back of the head and the neck and he went up to get his wife and they come down and called 9-1-1,” said Herd.

Other neighbor, Sharon Wagers, says that it hurt her heart when she heard someone could be so violent to an innocent child. She adds she would have cared for the baby, if that would have prevented the death.

“I am so in disbelief. I don’t know why or who could even do something like this. It’s heartbreaking,” said Wagers.

Both neighbors say they want justice for the baby.

“I hope they find whoever did this and they get what they deserve because this little child didn’t deserve this,” said Wagers.

We will share more information as it’s released from State Police.
