Neighbors hopeful after Alice Drive arrest
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- After nearly 40 years of living on Alice Drive, Joan Chwiej says the past few weeks have been some of the most difficult.
An arrest late Monday night has some of Chwiej’s neighbors on Alice Drive breathing a little easier as well. Police say 48-year-old Matthew Thomas Adams is in jail and charged with assault and harassment.
Lexington police say Adams’ less than neighborly behavior began in late June when a woman found his dog loose. Police say after it was determined the dog belonged to Adams, things started going downhill and the accused harassment began.
“We’ve never had anything go on before this bad,” says Chwiej.
An arrest warrant for Adams says he’s accused of a multitude of things ranging from leaving lawnmowers, chainsaws, and generators running in order to create a nuisance, to installing flood lights and directing them toward the neighbor’s bedroom window.
The official complaint also details how interviews with neighbors all revealed the same information and told the same stories.
“He told me himself he shot their air conditioner with a shotgun,” says Chwiej, who admits to feeling uneasy at times. “It makes you feel very insecure in your own home and in your neighborhood. It’s like you go to bed at night and I’ve got everything locked down, my security system is on, everything is on.”
Adams was arraigned in court Wednesday. His bond was set at around $5,000.
