Neighbors displaced after apartment fire on Cambridge Drive in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Several residents are without a place to stay after a fire damaged all four units of an apartment building Tuesday morning in Lexington, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Derek Roberts says crews were sent in around 9:18 a.m. to the 1900 block of Cambridge Drive for a reported structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from a downstairs apartment in a four-plex, with the fire extending into the attic.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control, but officials say all four apartments sustained damage. Firefighters remained on scene checking for hot spots and making sure the fire was fully extinguished.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to help residents affected by the fire. Officials say the exact number of people displaced is still being determined.

A fire investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. No injuries have been reported, according to fire officials.
