Neglected dog rescued from Lexington apartment now thriving; owner faces charges
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A once-neglected dog named Bella is now healthy and thriving in a new home after being rescued from inhumane conditions in a Lexington apartment, according to Animal Control officials.
Bella was found severely underweight and confined to a crate inside an apartment on East Fourth Street, filled with urine. Officials say her former owner claimed Bella’s condition was due to seizures, but provided no diagnosis, food, or veterinary care.
Animal Control took custody of the dog, and Bella was surrendered. With proper meals, care, and affection, she quickly recovered and has since been placed in a loving home.
The former owner now faces animal cruelty charges.
Officials say Bella’s story is a reminder that pet care is a serious responsibility. Anyone who suspects animal neglect or abuse is encouraged to call Animal Control at 859-255-9033.
