Nearly 200,000 children’s play kitchens recalled after reported death
(ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A popular children’s toy is being pulled from shelves following a tragic incident involving a strangulation hazard.
Backyard Kids is recalling nearly 200,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens after one reported child death. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the toy kitchen’s accessory hooks — used to hang pots, pans, and utensils — can catch on a child’s clothing, posing a serious risk of injury or strangulation.
Originally manufactured by KidKraft, which filed for bankruptcy in 2023, the play kitchens were sold from 2018 through July of this year on Amazon and through the websites of Walmart and KidKraft.
Backyard Kids is offering free replacement hooks and urges consumers to immediately stop using the toy kitchens and remove the original hooks.
Owners can contact Backyard Kids for more information and request replacement parts.
