Nearly 10,000 food items donated in 2019 ‘Food for Fines’ holiday drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Another big year for the popular “Food for Fines” program.

The Lexington Parking Authority says its 2019 holiday drive collected 8,828 pounds of food and paid off more than $14,000 in parking tickets.

The annual program allows people to bring in ten cans of food to get $15 off any LEXPARK or Lexington Police parking ticket, including past due tickets. There is no limit on the number of cans customers with multiple citations may bring in.

“Food for Fines” ran from November 25 through December 20.

All 9,594 food items collected this year were donated to God’s Pantry Food Bank.
