Natural Bridge State Resort Park to get new bridge

SLADE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The bridge which crosses the Middle Fork of the Red River will be replaced at Natural Bridge State Resort Park, according to the state.

The project will allow a safer and more direct access to the parks cottages, Woodland Center, swimming pool and Hoedown Island.

Natural Bridge is one of Kentucky’s oldest state parks.  The bridge to Hoedown Island is a connection point for visitors, offering a link to weekly hoedowns, campgrounds, playgrounds, trails and picnic areas.

Cabinet Secretary Don Parkinson says, “Natural Bridge is one of the most popular parks in our system, and replacing this bridge is of great importance to our valued guests, Tourism, Arts and Heritage.”

The new bridge will cost approximately $700,000, the Transportation Cabinet is contributing approximately $500,000 and the Department of Parks approximately $200,000 for the replacement bridge.

Construction is expected to begin next spring.
