National Guard soldiers work to clear roadways
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — National Guard soldiers are pitching in across Laurel County to help clear dangerous road conditions left behind by this weekend’s snow and ice.
According to the Kentucky National Guard, soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry Regiment — known as the “Mountain Warriors” — worked alongside the Kentucky Department of Forestry on Monday to remove fallen trees from county roads.
Officials say troops across the state have been deployed to help eliminate hazardous conditions, especially in areas where heavy ice brought down trees and blocked travel routes.
The assistance is part of ongoing storm recovery efforts aimed at improving road safety and helping communities return to normal as quickly as possible.
