Musselman the lone Commonwealth connection to make ISCO Championship cut
The former Kentucky Wildcat shot -10 in Round Two on Friday
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW)- Cooper Musselman’s restless night of sleep after round one didn’t seem to carry over to his second round golf game at the 2024 ISCO Championship.
Cooper was cool, calm and collected as he made the cut on Friday.
“We got done kind of late last night and I had to help my wife take care of our son so we high tailed it out of here,” said Musselman. “You don’t get a whole lot of sleep.”
His second round started with an early eagle on his second hole. The former Saint Xavier High School and University of Kentucky player followed that up with nine birdies.
“I did kind of see (this round going well),” said Musselman. “I knew it was in there. Just happy it came out today. I feel like I’m playing with house money.”
As a player without a tour card, making the cut at Keene Trace is crucial to Cooper’s career getting back on track. He lost his Korn Ferry Tour card after the 2023 season, but a return to the familiar Champions course has made Cooper feel free.
“This is huge. It’s so fun to be here and I’ve had a lot of fun over these past few days,” said Musselman. “This is probably the lowest I’ve ever shot (at Champions).”
Cut in the Commonwealth
Musselman is the lone player with Kentucky ties to make the cut. As the afternoon progressed, the line did not move in favor of Lexington native Josh Teater, who finished at -7 after two rounds. The final cut point to halve the field was at -8.
The other locals who will not be playing the weekend are as follows.
- Stephen Stallings Junior -7
- Alex Goff -2
- John Michael Butler -6
- Daniel Iceman +2
