Murphy appointed to vacant judicial post
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Melissa Moore Murphy, the unopposed candidate for the office later this year, has been appointed to the Fayette District Court Division 4 Judicial seat by Gov. Andy Beshear.
The appointment fills the vacancy created when Judge Julie Goodman was elected
to the Fayette Circuit bench.
“I am honored to receive this judicial appointment from Governor Beshear. I look forward to joining my colleagues on the Fayette District Court bench as we maintain the Halls of Justice and serve the citizens of Fayette County; even during this unprecedented global pandemic,” said Murphy.
Murphy was nominated for this seat by the Judicial Nominating Committee chaired by Kentucky Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. She will be sworn in Friday, April 24, 2020. Murphy will serve out the appointment until the General Election in November.
She is currently the uncontested candidate, and presumptive winner, in the 2020 Election
for the Fayette District Court Division 4 Judicial seat.
Murphy has more than 18 years of legal experience. She is married to Daniel P. Murphy, Jr. (“Danny”), Senior Assistant Dean of Community Engagement & Operations/Chief Diversity Officer.at the University of Kentucky College of Law. She is the mother of their three children, Terrance, Makari, and Micah. She is also the proud “MeMe” of ten-month-old Trenton.
She is an active volunteer in her community, with the Fayette County Public Schools and other civic organizations. She is a member of Consolidated Baptist Church in Lexington. She is an ordained minister and is active in the Music Ministry as a Worship Leader.
