Murder Charges Reduced to Homicide In Hazard Shooting
A Hazard woman was found guilty of homicide after originally being charged with murder.
Sarah Melton received the charge last June after a fatal shooting, but yesterday she was convicted of homicide and assault.
Police say Melton’s brother, Kirby Couch, was riding an ATV with Cindy Caudill when Melton fired a shot which hit them both and killed Caudill.
The jury recommended a six year prison sentence, but also found her mentally ill which means she could be out of jail in just over a year.
