Multiple vehicles broken into near Sharkey

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ)- Local police are searching for suspects who broke into nearly two dozen vehicles in Rowan County.

According to the Morhead News, over the weekend 20 cars were broken into near Eagle Trace, Dogwood Estates, and Ellington Loop.

Rowan County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Joe Cline said that they received numerous calls Saturday morning of locked cars having broken windows and unlocked cars being rummaged through.

The break-ins happened sometime late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Chief Deputy Cline says that the Sheriff’s Office has a few leads and have assigned a deputy to continue the investigation.

There have also been reports of numerous break-ins in the downtown Morehead area around Knapp Avenue as well as the Lakeview Heights Community.

Chief Deputy Cline says residents should have decent lighting around their homes and vehicles to prevent theft.
