Multiple guns found in Lexington school
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- It was a frightening morning at one Lexington middle school as three different type of guns were found on campus.
School officials say a hand gun, an antique revolver and a BB gun were confiscated from three separate students just after the beginning of class at Crawford Middle School.
Administrators say they were tipped off by fellow students there were multiple weapons on campus.
School officials say they found an unloaded handgun and ammunition on one eight grader, an antique revolver and ammunition on another eighth grader and a BB gun on a sixth grader.
School officials along with law enforcement safely confiscated all of the weapons.
They say an investigation into all three incidents is still ongoing and it is unclear why these students chose to bring these guns to school.
“You know our kids want a safe building, our parents want a safe building. The way parents can help us is to continue to be involved at home not just with their education but check backpacks and talk to students about what’s going on in our society and continue to praise them when they do the right thing,” said Mike Jones, principal of Crawford Middle School.
Law enforcement say the two eighth graders have been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property.
The sixth grader who had the BB gun is not facing any criminal charges but school officials say they will be disciplined by the district.
