Movement seeks to save trees in northern Kentucky
The Kentucky Enquirer reports that the Northern Kentucky Urban and Community Forestry Council launched Kentucky Roots in an effort to educate residents in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties on simple ways to care for their trees.
Some of the tips include not to pile mulch around the truck of a tree and to water it regularly for three years before leaving it to nature. The campaign, which began earlier this year, has been successful.
Sarah Gracey, urban forestry coordinator for the Kentucky Division of Forestry, said she is applying for a federal grant in the hopes of getting a messaging campaign like Kentucky Roots to go statewide.
