Mountain Parkway in Powell County reopens after deadly crash
STANTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people were killed Tuesday in a single vehicle crash on the Mountain Parkway in Powell County, according to investigators. It’s the second deadly crash on the parkway in Powell County in less than 24-hours and the third since last week.
Investigators say on Tuesday a car blew a tire causing the driver to lose control, go off the parkway and down an embankment. Authorities say a man and woman were killed in the accident. No names were released.
State Police say Monday night 40-year old Martricia Willis, of Jackson, was traveling westbound on the parkway when she collided with a vehicle driven by 28-year old Xylina Barnett, of Clay City.
Investigators say Barnett’s passenger, 30-year old James Gilliam, of Clay City, was pronounced dead at the scene. Barnett was taken to the hospital in Winchester for treatment.
State Police say Martricia Willis and passengers, 42-year old Gerry Willis, of Booneville, and two juveniles were taken to the hospital in Winchester. Martricia and Gerry Willis and one of the juvenile’s were transferred to UK Hospital in Lexington where they were all listed in stable condition, according to KSP.
