Morehead Police investigating racially charged vandalism

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ)- Several people in Morehead are disturbed after finding racially charged vandalism this weekend.

One woman posted on Twitter, saying someone painted a racial slur on her house, a home where two African-American students live near Morehead State University.

The University’s President and Morehead’s Mayor issued a joint statement saying they strongly condemn the hateful act. Here is there full release:

JOINT RELEASE FROM CITY OF MOREHEAD AND MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY

In response to a recent act of vandalism being investigated as a hate crime in the Morehead community, Jim Tom Trent, Mayor of Morehead, and Dr. Jay Morgan, President of Morehead State University, have issued the following joint statement:

We strongly condemn this hateful act. We ask others to join us in condemning not only this act, but all such acts of hate, bigotry, and intolerance. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our residents and students and will work tirelessly to bring the perpetrator of this senseless act to justice. Diversity and inclusion are important aspects of strong, welcoming communities, and we remain steadfastly committed to supporting all members of the Morehead and MSU communities.
