Morehead launches text-to-911 service to improve emergency response
MOREHEAD, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A new safety feature in Rowan County could help save lives. Morehead 911 Dispatch now has the capability to receive text messages to 911—becoming one of the few dispatch centers in Kentucky to offer the service.
Officials say the feature is especially important for people who are unable to speak or need to remain silent during an emergency.
To use the service, open your phone’s messaging app, enter “911” in the “To” field, and type a clear message that includes your location and the nature of the emergency.
Dispatchers ask that people avoid using slang or emojis and note that a response should arrive within one minute.
