More parking added for businesses near CentrePointe construction

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – There’s now more parking in Downtown Lexington.

The city put in four, temporary, metered spots to help businesses that lost customers because of the CentrePointe construction.

Liza Betz, the owner of Failte Irish Shop, and Peter Kiely with McCarthy’s went to the city to collaborate with LEXPARK and city traffic engineers.  They all reviewed the parking situation in hopes of finding the best solution.

Wednesday, the city installed a loading zone and four parking spots in the right lane of the 100 block of South Upper Street, where the CentrePointe project has blocked parking.

Traffic engineers decided traffic numbers were low enough on that block to allow a lane closure.

The temporary parking spaces are expected to stay until this fall when North Upper Street is expected to reopen, according to the city, who  hopes by then the CentrePointe parking garage will be ready.
