More Kentuckians With Diabetes

November is diabetes awareness month…But why wait until then to think about it when 26 million Americans suffer from the disease?
A new study shows that by 2015, 13.91% of Kentuckians will be living with diabetes.
This is estimated to cost the state over $5 billion.
Dr. Philip Kern, Director of the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center, says that the obesity epidemic is what’s driving this increase.
He says that you don’t need to lose a lot of weight to see a very profound effect on controlling your blood glucose.
Kern also urges diabetes patients to get their eyes regularly examined.
He says that eye disease is one of the mean complications with diabetes.
