Monticello man allegedly hits, strangles Pulaski Co. deputy during arrest

SOMERSET, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Pulaski County deputy was injured after a Monticello man allegedly hit and strangled the deputy during his arrest on Tuesday.

Around 4:30 p.m. that day, Deputy Dylan West responded to the Social Security Office in Pulaski County for a complaint of a “disorderly person.”

West says the man, identified as Joshua Hardwick, appeared to be intoxicated and was told by West he was under arrest.

As West was handcuffing Hardwick, Hardwick allegedly resisted, struck West in the face and began choking and strangling him.

With the assistance of the Social Security Office’s security officer, West was able to place Hardwick under arrest.

Hardwick is charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, strangulation and disorderly conduct.

Hardwick was treated at a local hospital and then booked into the Pulaski County Detention Center.

West was also treated at the same hospital for his injuries.
