Montgomery County sheriff struck by SUV while diverting traffic on I-64

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Montgomery County Sheriff David Charles was struck by an SUV while diverting traffic on Interstate 64 Saturday morning.

According to the Montgomery County Fiscal Court, the accident happened at Exit 113 in Mount Sterling. Sheriff Charles was rerouting vehicles due to an earlier crash in Bath County when he was hit.

He was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling but has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

The interstate is now back open.
