Mock School Shooting Held in Mercer County

More than 150 emergency responders, police and Mercer County School district faculty took part in a mock school shooting Saturday to prepare the community for a worse case scenario.

Police and a ‘shooter’ used real guns firing blanks in the school to help faculty get a sense of what gunfire would sound like in a school.

Some of the faculty even had red painted sploches on their clothes to represent gunshot wounds and acted out what they would do if they were shot, including screaming for help and faking seizures.

The drill was planned more than a year and a half ago and helped first responders see what part of their emergency plan worked and what needs improvement.

The entire drill was filmed by camera throughout the building so that emergency officials can go back and study the tape.

Officials in Mercer County say they plan on holding more of these drills in the future.
