Miss America CEO steps down amid scandal
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ. (WTVQ) – The CEO, the President, and the Chairman of the Miss America Organization has resigned Saturday, amid an email scandal ridiculing past pageant winners on their appearance, intellect and sex lives.
Miss America CEO Sam Haskell apologizes to 2013 winner Mallory Hagan after making fun of her weight gain saying she was “huge and gross.”
In another one of the emails Haskell jokingly wished Miss America Kate Shindle were dead.
The emails were leaked to the Huffington Post, which first reported on them Thursday, Haskell said he made “a mistake of words.”
The organization announced the resignations a day after dozens of former Miss America’s signed a petition calling on the group’s leadership to step down.
