Military service marker stolen from Warren Co. church cemetery

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WTVQ) — Police are investigating after a military service marker was stolen from a church cemetery in Warren County.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the service marker for Clifford Jones was stolen and the thief attempted to sell it for scrap.

The scrap yard purchased the marker, then contacted a local funeral home to notify the next of kin and return it.

“This is an absolute disgrace on so many levels. Your addictions do not take precedence over others belongings and what they have earned for themselves and others,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

Deputies say they’re aware of the person(s) involved and will be seeking felony charges.

Jones was a World War II Army veteran.

He was born in 1923 and died in 2012.

Warren County is about 2.5 hours southwest of Fayette County.
