Military and First Responders day at the PGA ISCO Championship

NICHOLASVILLE, KY (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Amidst the backdrop of world-class golf, the PGA Championship at Keene Trace is showcasing a deep commitment to honoring service and community on opening day.

Crowds grew throughout the morning on Thursday, it not only marked the first round of competition but also highlighted “Military and First Responder Day” at the championship. Active military personnel and veterans were prominently featured, enjoying exclusive seating at the Patriot Outpost, near one of the greens.

Along with the great seats, 350 complimentary tickets were given to military service members, veterans, first responders, and Kentucky teachers.

Multiple different vendors are stationed throughout the course including the non-profit Military Missions. The organization’s goal is focused on sending care packages to deployed service members. ABC 36 talked with the volunteers working at the Military Missions stand today, they said the local non-profit started as a small group.

“We began on a mom’s dinning room table when her son joined the marines 20 years ago,” said Kim Page with Military Missions. “We were here yesterday also and it’s been great and we’ve already had a guy come by make a contribution, very nice great,” said Gary Brothers with Military Missions.

Their organization’s stand is one of many activities set up throughout the championship.
